The JC Booth Symphonic Band was chosen to perform at
the 2006 Georgia Music Educators Association Convention on January 26th
in
Savannah Georgia. The Symphonic Band was chosen from a
field of dozens and dozens of bands.
Out of this field two middle school bands were picked.
The Band performed 7 pieces on this
concert. Among the pieces performed was a “Commissioned Piece” composed by Mr. Bill
Melton. The inspiration for “A Northern Odyssey”
came from Bill’s mission trip last summer to an Indian reservation in the
far reaches of northern
Canada
. Mr. Melton is entering this piece into a
“National Composition” contest for concert band works. The band also performed a
chart entitled, “All Those
Endearing Young Charms” featuring guest soloist Tony Bortone from the
Army Ground Forces Band . Tony is an extraordinary euphonium player who
teaches low brass here locally. Our
percussion section was featured in a percussion ensemble piece (Instant
Carmen) and was conducted by John Haack, formerly of
the Army Ground Forces Band. John
not only keeps a full studio of percussion students, he also finds time to work
with the a
local
drum line as
well.
