Band Placement For JC Booth Band 08-09
The placement test for the 2008-09 school year will take place starting on May 14th. This will place the student in the appropriate class for the 2008-09. If a child wants to be placed in the “Intermediate Band Class”, the student will play the scales and chromatic ONLY one octave. The prepared piece will be the same. Scales and Chromatic MUST be memorized. The prepared piece does not.
The chromatic scale they will use is marked on each student's fingering chart. This was done in class. The chromatice scale (and range) will be posted here soon.
You will need "Scorch" (by Sibelius) to view, print and playback the "Prepared Pieces" for the placement test. Remember that you can adjust tempos with this file. This will enable you practice the "Prepared Piece" at a slower tempo.
The scales listed as "In Class" are the "All State Scales" in a format that will allow ALL instruments to play these scales together..."In Class"...at the same time. Please understand that these are used for "Classroom Playing" only. Students should practice AND MEMORIZE the All State scales with "Georgia Music Educators Association" in the title.
Be sure and use a "Metronome" when practicing your scales and prepared piece.
Look below the "Table" for the "Chromatic Scales".
If you find any mistakes please email me at burton.robert (at) fcboe.org .
Trumpet / Treble Cleff Baritone Chromatic
Trombone / Baritone Bass Cleff Chromatic
Even though a mallet chromatic is not listed here, it is required of the percussionist. It will be the full lenght of the xylophone.
Percussionist will be required to play the following rudiments (in an open-close-open rudimental presentation fashion) on snare drum; Long Roll, Flam Accent, Ruff and Student’s Choice. Each link below is a “clickable” link. When you click on those links it will take to www.vicfirth.com. On each page there are links to play midi files and videos of each. The videos are rather large so let them load before loading. On “Slow DSL” the “Low Quality” video plays fine. Be sure and look at the bottom for suggests on how to practice each rudiment.
